Respite Caregivers support children and adults with developmental disabilities to build social relationships, develop personal goals and skills, and participate in recreational activities in the community.
The Aspire Respite Program provides families with a qualified caregiver for their child or family member with a developmental disability. Are you looking for:
- Additional income
- Flexible work hours – choose the hours you work while serving your community

Respite Caregivers are self-employed – you control how much and when you work! Because this is not a regular Monday to Friday, 9-5 type of job, it is often a great fit for students or people wishing to supplement existing income.
We’re looking for people who:
- Share our philosophy of community inclusion;
- Recognize the value and uniqueness of every individual;
- Demonstrate respect for individual and family diversity; and
- Value individual dignity, privacy and confidentiality.
No formal training is required, however previous experience working with individuals with disabilities is an asset. Successful Respite Caregivers are:
- Responsible, enthusiastic, and energetic;
- Able to remain calm under pressure;
- Effective communicators with good conflict resolution skills; and
- Willing to learn and receive feedback.
Respite Caregivers must be 19 years or older and as part of our screening process we also require:
- Physician’s Reference Form;
- Criminal Record Check – Vulnerable Sector, renewed every 5 years;
- Valid First Aid & CPR, renewed every 3 years;
- Work/Character References;
- Driver’s Licence, Car Insurance, Driver’s Abstract (car is preferred, not required); and
